We are located only 200 mt. from the natural unspoilt beach of Playa Grande, one of the longest on the coast, stretching 40 km. to Limon. The perfect place to enjoy an early morning stroll before breakfast. On a flat calm day, one can see the dolphins jumping and playing on the horizon. When the waves are up it is time to surf! Whether you want to go out yourself and try the waves out or watch as others do some pretty cool flips and back turns!
600 mt. in the opposite direction is Playa Negra, also a great place for surfers or enjoying a game of volley ball on the beach or swim in the warm waters. Reggae Bar, a perfect place to sit and contemplate the waves and enjoy the breeze as you taste some local foods such as Coconut rice & beans, fresh fish, etc.
The well-known National Park of Cahuita, is a 5 minute drive, 10 minute bicycle ride or nice 20 minute walk following the beach from the Magellan Inn. This Park with its white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, is definitely known as the one of the best in the whole country. People say it is like walking in a zoo, yet all out in the nature, free & wild, there are so many animals to be seen!
Enjoy the 4 mile trail that passes through the jungle mostly along side the beach, to see the howler mokeys, white-faced monkeys, sloths, raccoons, pizotes, iguanas, pelicans, toucan, yellow snakes, caymans, turtles... Along the way, a refreshing dip into the turquoise waters, stop for a pic-nic under a shady coconut tree.
Go out on a boat trip for excellent snorkeling off Cahuita Point on a 600 acre reef, with 123 different species of fish and 35 species of coral.
The village of Cahuita offers you the charm of the Caribbean Calypso & Reggae vibe. A colourful laid back little town where all is "Pura Vida"! Many little restaurants all with their own flavours from Jamaican descendants to European & Asian plates, Italian pizzas and pastas and of course fresh seafood from the coast.
Have a PiƱa Colada or Cuba Libre on the steps of Coco's Bar swaying to the beats of Reggae and more... Live music on many nights with local groups!
Only a few miles down the road is the town of Puerto Viejo with its bustling activity. A great place to go for a day's trip, have lunch, swim off the white beaches of Cocles and buy artisanal souvenirs from the many little shops that line the roads of the town.
Another days trip to the Gandoca-Manzanillo Reserve. Walk along is paths and beautiful coves or a nights adventure with a guide for turtle egg laying spottings. A great place for lunch is at the famous Maxi's restaurant, a fishermen family well know for it coconut fresh lobster and redsnapper.
We definitely recommend a minimum 3 day stay in Cahuita, to be able to enjoy everything it has to offer. We will help you plan your days according to your desires.
